The Story of a Smartphone Enthusiast

As a kid i was never interested in having a phone for myself. When Smartphones weren't that much of a common thing for children back then. It felt like to me as of an extra weight to always carry on with myself. In fact as it is a valuable device one has to be careful about not losing it or there lies chances of facing muggers. Whereas i didn't even have much of a use for it other than just receiving calls from my mother when I'm outside for my coaching classes or maybe at a friend's house.

It was 2016 when i was given an Android phone for the first time. The model was a Samsung Galaxy S2 from 2011, a very old one used by my whole family, lastly to me. The phone could support only a few apps. The internal capacity of the phone was very low. Yet i had used it for about a year when it started to become unusable. I could not use it for anything not even phone calls could be made properly. Whereas all my peers had very usable and modern smart phones at that time. I asked my father to get me a new phone for several weeks but he refused me saying that i was still too young for a smartphone. None of the apps would work. The phone would always keep shutting down. And to run only one app it needed to have a factory reset everyday. Suddenly one day my father got me a new phone,a Galaxy J5 Prime. but it still was a very low spec device. Something which I'd have never chosen but however it still got the job done. Something is better than nothing.

I was very dissatisfied with my smartphone experience and felt sad about the fact that all people of my age could be using modern devices, and i could not. And by this i gradually started growing a great interest in smart phones. I always wished to use a smart phone which would be modern, capable and would also fulfill all my requirements. Something that i would be very satisfied with. People start growing interest in something which they cannot have. I started researching smartphones. I would watch smartphone reviews and tech videos on YouTube. It all would just make me happy. And it was quite enjoyable to me. I could not use them but i would enjoy knowing about all the specifications it had. And with months of research i could have a great knowledge regarding smartphones. Like i could easily understand the internal specifications of the processor, GPU, storage, ram capacity, battery, form factor, build type, User Interface, speakers, displays and resolutions, cameras, connectivity, sensors etc. And could easily judge a phone on the basis of these specifications.

It was 2019, and getting updates on technology and smartphones through YouTube videos, i came to know about the latest flagship of Samsung also the top tier one in the flagship line up. It was the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. It was literally the best Android phone during that time. But it also required a huge amount of budget launching with a price of around 130K BDT. And the device was available to only some specific countries like Korea, UK , USA, China and japan. So there was no chance i could ever get it.

The Galaxy S10 5G

After completing my SSC exam i could convince my mother to buy me a new phone but it was still within a budget of 30k. So i started doing my research for a good phone in my budget. And the phone i liked most around that budget was the latest Galaxy A70. However it was priced at 40k in Bangladesh. I had a relative who was traveling to Malaysia at that time for a week. And i came to find out that the Galaxy A70 was only 32k BDT in Malaysia and i got it brought by that relative. It was then when i was finally happy to have a modern smartphone also of my choice. Though it was not the best phone but it was the best in my budget fulfilling all my requirements happily.

My A70 & S10 5G

After using it for 2 years, in 2021 i went to Bashundhara City shopping mall with a friend. He was looking to buy a new smartphone. As i am an expert regarding smartphones he wanted me to help him in buying a new phone. There suddenly in a shop i found a S10 5G the flagship and rare phone i had dreamt to own. And it was also affordable within my reach. As it was a rare phone almost nobody knew its value. Someone sold it to that shop for a very low price compared to its launch price and that shop is also selling it around that price with a little profit. I got very restless to see it and also i could own it. So i sold my PS4 console and my A70. Thus, I managed the money to buy it within a week. I was so happy to finally buy my dream phone. The phone was very beautiful to look at and very premium as well. Something which i had never experienced, a flagship phone. It had the best display, great cameras and almost everything was great except the battery. Because of all the amazing flagship features it also drained a lot of battery, which was quite a problem. The processor was getting outdated as well. After using a year i no longer felt happy with it rather it was the battery issue that got me thinking for long term use. As i had no plans on changing phone after it. However after this experience i learned that even though flagship phones have great specifications in every sector. They cannot provide a good battery backup because of all the flagship features.

My interest in watching tech videos and smartphone reviews never ended, i still had updates of the latest ones and had ideas about which phones are better. There was this sleeper phone which was from realme called GT Neo 2. It had my attention at that time with all of its spec. Though it wasn't a flagship phone but it is a flagship killer. Which means almost all flagship features in a lower price range than flagship ones. But the price it was launched here in Bangladesh was higher and out of my range. Suddenly i was just randomly browsing through Facebook marketplace and found a brand new GT NEO 2 on a much lesser price. Which was an amazing deal. It also was the color unavailable in Bangladesh. That night i went to buy that phone taking half the amount feom my mother and the other half from my savings. and i was happy to find in a pristine condition. I came to know from the seller that he had bought it from India and now he'll be shifting to iPhone so he is selling a little lower than the price he bought it with.

Till this date I'm using the GT Neo2 and found no issues on the phone. And is actually the best in it's budget and class. It has been serving me perfectly in almost every sector with a very powerful processor and great battery backup with user experience, Alhamdulillah. I can easily recommend this to anyone around the budget of 40k. I'm writing this blog on that phone as well.

As a smartphone enthusiast i have helped my family members, relatives and some of my friends buy their smartphones according to their needs and they all the very happy with it. Recently i have come across a lot of smartphone news of the current time. And there are many options out there and they have their problems too. Samsung and OnePlus has display problem, Xiaomi and vivo has bad user experience, Google and Apple has battery draining issues, Huawei doesn't have google support. Only realme is the brand i still find to be in a very stable condition and easy to recommend anyone. However every brand has its own speciality. And i respect every company and their products as a tech enthusiast. GSMArena is the best website to know about the accurate specifications of any smartphone. and you can look into the matters of your needs and usability. Also go through all the possible reviews on YouTube and better if taken the help of an expert. World's top most smartphone reviewing channel is "GSMArena" and the top most tech YouTube channel of Bangladesh is "Android Toto Company". That's all about my smartphone journey as an enthusiast.
