What is an Aurora???

The majestic view of Aurora can be considered one of such charmers. In fact, it is one of the top-tier belles of mother Earth. The magnificent display of beauty in the northern skies as our planet’s damaged magnetic field twirls around to reform to the other side of the globe, could sooth anyone’s mind to the core. What actually are those illuminations?

The northern and Southern Lights, commonly referred to as Aurora Polaris (Polar Lights) are produced when charged particles from the sun (a.k.a: Solar Flare) contact with Earth’s magnetic field. It all starts with the Sun releasing solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs).These clouds of extremely energetic gas particles fly millions of miles throughout the vacuum of space, all the way from the surface of the sun to contacting the magnetic field of the Earth. Which causes both to negate one another. Except, they don’t just vanish away in thin air. They twirl around and reform to the back side of the globe. And if we look at our atmospheric chart, It gets thinner the more we move towards the polar sides, enabling us to view the celestial displays from the areas close to the poles which is unique to only our planet. 

So, in layman's terms, An Aurora is a temporary reminiscence of our mother earth protecting us from our angry sun.

Why is it so pretty and colorful?

To be more specific, The magnetosphere of our planet diverts the charged solar clouds toward the poles as they reach Earth. A brilliant display of color is produced when these particles collide with atoms in the Earth's atmosphere. A collision with Nitrogen atoms form blue and purple hue, whereas oxygen atoms predominantly produce green and red hued auroras. The night sky's colorful dance creates an ever-shifting tableau of beauty, much like an ethereal ballet romantically dancing throughout the skies!

Just, Imagine yourself sitting in the silence of the night, covered in warm clothing, staring up as the ethereal luminosity gently sways across the sky, leaving you in awe at the wonders of the cosmos. Who wouldn’t want to experience such bliss.

There are many places in the globe that provide a great vantage point for individuals who seek the auroras in all their splendor. Iceland, Norway, Finland, Canada, and Alaska are well known for their openness and the breathtaking views they provide. The best time to view these celestial wonders is during the cold weathers of September to March, when dark, clear skies increase the likelihood of a spectacular show. To find a more precise location to chase the aurora, many people agree that one of the best places to see the Northern Lights is around the Arctic Circle. The southernmost regions of Antarctica, New Zealand, Australia, and South America are also good places to look for the Southern Lights. This celestial display may be seen in these pure, far-off locales that are free of light pollution and urban commotion.
